Lusaka May 24, 2016 – Lusaka

Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) has been recognized among the top 10 best performing development finance institutions (DFIs) in Africa at the ongoing 42nd Ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) in Lusaka, Republic of Zambia.

The best performing African DFIs award was received by the Chief Executive Officer, Alex Kanyankole as a result of obtaining A+ rating on the basis of the Bank’s level in compliance with best standards and practices in the areas assessed.

BRD was assessed with the AADFI prudential standards, guidelines and rating system (PSGRS) during 2015 peer review exercise. The A+ rating is based on certified results of the assessments in the areas of governance, financial and operational standards in which our overall score was 90%”, Kanyankole explained.

Kanyankole also noted that the purpose of the assessment is to assist each institution to identify areas of weakness with a view to taking collective measures in addressing them.

Held alongside the Annual meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) happening from 23 – 27 May 2016, the AADFI annual workshop focused on the theme: “Implementing the sustainable development goals (SDGs): what role for African DFIs”.

Forty-six (46) African national institutions (including 26 ordinary AADFI member-institutions and 4 special AADFI member-institutions and 16 non AADFI member-institutions) submitted their self-assessment to the Peer Review for 2015.

BRD is a proud member institution of AADFI – the association seeks to speed up regional integration and socioeconomic development in Africa through promoting sustainable financing and strengthening of cooperation among African banks and financial institutions.
